Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OEM Device Upgrade, How to Upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich

HERE IS THE LATEST VERSION of Google's Android mobile operating system (OS), Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), is available on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, but here's a round-up of mobile phone makers' roll out plans for ICS on other devices.

As with any new version of Android the question on everyone's lips is 'when will I get an upgrade?' Here's what we've heard from each manufacturer about their roll out plans.

Samsung

The firm has been one of the quietest and somewhat secretive about its plans, but one snippet we do have is that the Galaxy S II will get an upgrade. The Korean firm has not revealed when this will come or any details about any of its other devices.

HTC

Taiwanese phone maker HTC has confirmed that it will upgrade a number of its phones to ICS in early 2012. Handsets that HTC has listed so far are the Sensation, Sensation XL, Sensation XE and the Evo 3D. It has named some US handsets, too - the Rezound, Evo Design 4G and Amaze 4G.

Sony Ericsson

It's a similar story when it comes to Sony Ericsson, which has given no timeframe for the upgrade. It has at least verified that a lot of its devices will get ICS, including the Xperia Arc, Arc S, Play, Neo, Neo V, Mini, Mini Pro, Active and Ray.

LG

Once again, the firm has quoted no schedule, but it has named a few devices for the update. The Optimus 2X, Optimus Black, Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE will all get ICS. LG said an announcement will be made this month detailing when the rollout will occur.


Motorola

It sounds like a broken record, but Motorola hasn't stated when its products will get the latest Android version either. However, it has announced plans to upgrade the Razr, Droid Razr, Xoom and Droid Bionic so far.

Google

The developer of Android has started to roll out ICS to the Samsung Nexus S handset, but it's just an early release for employees at the moment.

Nokia and Apple

Not too strangely, we've heard not a peep from either Nokia or Apple about when they will upgrade any of their devices to the Android 4.0 OS release.

This is what we know at the moment and, of course, plans can change. We won't be surprised if upgrades get delayed. This is probably half the reason the vendors are reluctant to give out any dates yet. We'll be sure to keep you informed as soon as we learn of further developments
